The news is the latest public extortion attempt from the group known as The Dark Overlord, which has previously targeted a production studio working for Netflix, as well as a host of medical centres and private businesses across the...

Insurance help needed (plastic surgery related)

Hi. Will getting a breast augmentation affect insurance coverage if I am subsequently down with breast cancer? I understand that from a medical standpoint, there is no linkage between implants and breast cancer at all. Also, while it may affect detection due to the implant obscuring certain views, this can be overcome by telling the radiologist in advance and getting more views taken. I've not gotten any forms of insurance yet. But worried that they will play punk and deny any coverage next tim...

Diagnosing crash dump files

So, I have an older desktop that's just used for email and web browsing now. Recently, it has crashed several times. It got the error codes IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I know both of these can be related to bad RAM, but before I go out and get new RAM to put in, I thought I'd have a look at the crash dump files. I've not had any experience looking at these, so what do y'all make of them? What should I be looking at to diagnose this? Attached are the two ...

Given a core-dump, how to get the files opened by the late process?

Answers to related questions all suggest using lsof or checking under /proc/NPID/, which is not helpful for when the process is already gone and only its core-dump remains. However, it should be possible to obtain the file-descriptors opened by the late process, along with the filesystem-identifier(s) and inode-number for each. I realize, this is OS-specific, but I only need it for (modern) Linux... I suppose, it needs to be a script fed to gdb, but what are the global symbols to look for?...

Create ZIP files from containing related files from multiple folders

Is there a way to automate creation of ZIPs containing files with common name elements? What I have are multiple variations of the same image: files/2250/8199print.jpg files/1200x1200/8199square.jpg files/1200x900/8199wide1.jpg files/1200x628/8199wide2.jpg files/480x360/8199small.jpg What I'd like to do is create some sort of application that goes into folders, finds related files (all contain "8199") and then archives them all into a new file named "cartoon8199.zip". I tried to create a...

Recursively delete Linux core dump files

What is the best method to recursively delete core dump files? I have inherited a data directory from a previous user and am trying to reduce the storage footprint. I'm worried that using find . -type f -name 'core.*' -exec rm {} \; will delete files that may be needed. I intended on using find . -type f ! -name '*.gz' -exec gzip {} \; after the core dumps are removed to compress all files possible....
