Scale wrecking element in hot water tank.

So I have very hard well water. water hardness of around 600. No iron, mainly calcium carbonate. The element in the hot water tank has so much scale its dramatically impacted its ability to heat water. I do not want to use a water softener, it makes the water feel slimy and it tastes salty. After researching my options are limited. I'm considering going with an electric water conditioner. From what I've read and seen independent reports the magnetic water conditioners are nonsense. I did however come across www.hydroflow-usa.com their product seems to be very different and from the independent case studies they have it looks promising. Does anyone have any personal experience with their products? Any other ideas as to a solution that's not a water softener?

Boiling Water in Hot Water Tank

Our hot water tank is set to heat for only 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. We only use the shower so don't need it for baths. All we use it for is washing up and getting washed in a morning and I would describe it as hot enough to need a little cold adding to it but not boiling hot. At the back of my mind somewhere I seem to remember reading something ages ago that said you should make sure you properly boil your tank every 6 months or whatever for health and safety rea...

ed resin tank on a 20 year old sears water softener: Some questions

Years ago I installed a Sears model 625.348490 water softener (date code 97038 - so that's 1997?). The kind with the resin tank inside the brine tank Worked fine but I've jury rigged the waste line (it didn't reliably drain to the sewer line 5' above it and 25' away, so I wound up having it flow into a garbage pail next to it then a sump pump to the sewer line. For that and my general phobia of water, we shut off the water main to the house when we go away ( one time, system started regenerat...

Cold water tank leaking and sludge in radiators

I’d really appreciate a sense check from any plumbers out there. We have a leak from the cold water tank. Called a plumber out and he says the metal tank has corroded due to sludge in the radiators. We need a new tank but should also get the sludge done as otherwise it will warp the new (plastic) tank. So far, so plausible. He says we could have a power flush in one day but that might lead to leaks under the floor boards so he recommends doing it over 2-3 weeks. I suspect that when I get a coupl...

Fleck missing oring in brine valve housing(too much water in tank?)

Hi, First post here. I have a Fleck 5600. I have noticed that my water in the brine tank has been shutting off by the float in the brine tank well. From researching and reading many posts here, I have learned that the float is just a back up. I took the head apart and checked the brine valve and it looks good and I can press to open. I looked inside the housing to fish out the oring and it wasn't there(and not on the end of the valve either). So, I'm not sure if this valve was replaced before wh...

How much hot water is in my tank?

I've done some googling and not come up with much on this topic, so hoping you knowledgeable people can help :-) We have an open vented system with a hot water cylinder. How do I tell how much (and how hot) the water is in the cylinder? I am heating with a mixture of gas and solar/immersion at the moment. I would like to reduce the gas, but have no way of knowing whether we've got enough hot water for the evening..... Are there devices to tell you this? :)...

Fresh water aquariums/fish tank owners...

What substrate do you use and why the hell is it so expensive? Im finally getting around to setting up my 65 gallon fresh water fish tank. I do not plan on using any live plants and NO gold fish. I need up to 125 lbs of what ever substrate I decide to use. Sand is obviously the cheapest, but also the least eye appealing. What ever else I choose, the pricing starts at close to a buck a pound.....:ack: So what do you guys use and why? Attached Images   ...
