Very interesting OSU study on where the best tuna fishing is., Fishing

Dogs, A buddy just sent me a link to this article: http://today.oregonstate.edu/news/st...-boost-revenue Very interesting information on where to find tuna. I have been bugging the researcher to see if he will come fishing out of Ilwaco and show knuckledraggers like me how to figure out the LCS. It sounds like if we can figure out where ocean currents converge, we can catch a lot more tuna. It would be nice to add a little science to "go where we caught them yesterday", which is ...

2018 Willamette River Springer Thread, Fishing

Guess I didn't notice that the other thread wasn't "Willamette only" so I'll start one for here in case anyone's interested. Couldn't find another one that was started so please let me know if I somehow missed it or if they're supposed to be combined this year (I didn't get the memo if it is). Nothing to brag about today except that the boat is running well on it's first shakedown for the season. Left the dock around 1:30 at Willy Park to catch the high tide. Fisher checker had just ...

Rod Hours per Springer, Fishing

So, the conventional wisdom for the 90% is that the average rod-hours per springer is 20. Thought it might be interesting to track 2018 stats. Post your boat rod hours per springer. I'd like to count any boated springer... released or bonked. Fish lost at the net don't count. My boat so far: dead nuts on 1:20 rod hours. For the record, this one was bonked. One 4 hour solo trip. Two two rod 4 hour trips....

Springer fisherman's boat hit by barge, Fishing

A friend of mine told me about this and looking on line found that on Wednesday just below Longview near Willow Grove a 20 foot boat trolling in the fog was hit by a barge/tug and flipped everyone into the water. Report says from all sources the fog was thick and visibility was down to a few yards. Everyone made it out ok except loss of equipment. Wow I sure won't be trolling in the channel in those conditions those ships and barges at least around Tongue Point shipping channel are moving usual...

Springer drift fishing, Fishing

Almost Springer season and was wondering if drift fishing a pink worm works well on them? My winter steelhead go to's this year has been drifting the worm and swinging / drifting Cleo spoons. Was hoping the same technique works on the Springer as well albeit different holding water. 2nd question, am I the only person that drifts a spoon? What I do is cast slightly upstream and as the spoon drifts down stream I put just enough tension to slightly thump and taps the bottom (once per cast). Then...

ISO Seat Springer, One day 4/14/18, below Bonneville, Fishing

Would love to hook up with somebody and fish the day below Bonneville for the one day Springer salmon opener. I'm up in Tri-Cities and just do not know the water well enough to haul my boat down there for one day. Season fisherman, 58, fished all my life, have gear, and money split the expenses. Let me know if possible. My email is [email protected] thank you...
